Degree Show space

Hey all, thought I'd give this wee update for those who haven't been in Evo House of late:
Apparently there are two different shelf depths. The guy in the studio asked me if I had a portfolio to put on my shelf, which was followed by an "Oh, okay so you'll need one of the deep shelves. Some people are getting short ones, some people are getting longer ones...." Which was also followed by an uneasy "This is very much a trial year..." So, if you really need a deep shelf, it might be a good idea to mark it on your shelf plan or something (shelf plans are attached to your space in the studio).

I'm a little concerned about our cardboard walls, since even painted they have that slight corrugated look to them, and that weird bubbly line. Also the shelves look pretty awful from the side, since you can tell it's just empty cardboard. Hopefully they'll have end caps for them? Maybe? And there's some pretty ugly screws in the top, and holes where they messed up, but oh well, not that noticeable.

Good news is apparently they are as sturdy as they're meant to be, or so I've heard that they will hold a good amount of weight when nailed into.
Fingers crossed, people.

oh my god what a joke! as if it doesn't make a MASSIVE difference. the shelves are cardboard too?

Yes the shelves are cardboard, but they bend back on themselves and are quite sturdy. I have no idea how shallow the smaller ones are - the guy just kept muttering about how some people were getting deep ones who only needed shallow, and vice versa. Oy.

ack! this sounds uh...problematic. how far through the shelves have they got? growl. i guess i'll be in tomorrow morning then.

is anyone else slightly disbelieving of the fact that our show is cardboard? all of that stress and fuss about it being 'professional' and then they give us bubbly corrugated card for walls? oh eca...

i know, it's a bit mental. After all we're spending on printing, paper and probably paracetamol, they're giving us a glorified cardboard box to show our work on!!

Ah well..I knwo for a fact that everyone will be so mesmerised by the actual work that they won't give two hoots about the walls.

BUT.. less deep shelves would be amazing, 45cm deep is just too much for me. We'll have to buzz around the studio then i suppose. Thanks for informing us of this tutors!!

I don't think the tutors even know, or hardly anyone for that matter. I just managed to hear it from the guy putting up shelves by himself.

As for our glorified cardboard box... it's like the biggest fort ever! Only less fun and more .. not fun, but whatever.

shallow shelves are 23cm deep. which is actually a bit better for me, 30cm would be perfect but never mind! looks like they are trying to give everyone at least one deep shelf. i've got four shelves and they'd given me 3 shallow and one deep. which is fine, if they put them in the right places! yeah i hope everyone will be concentrating on the work and not notice the walls! i'm glad i bought lots of frames to hide it with!

they haven't done all the shelves yet so if you get in there now you can have a say as to which ones are shallow and which are deep. if you dont they're going to go ahead and make the low shelves deep and the high ones shallow.

One more thing, the edges of the shelves are not going be covered so you can see the hollow cardboard through it. Stewart said that you can cover them if you want or just "embrace the cardboard"

Although, he also said that it's taking so long to construct all the different spaces that next year they will probably have much less choice in what shelves they get - so that's one advantage of being the trial year.

Yeah the little shelves look really good - I just wish they had told us so we could specify!
