Viva??
Hey guys - I was wondering if anyone has any info on what we're supposed to be talking about in the Viva? I can't remember if they ever emailed us any guidelines. 10 minutes without repeating myself is going to be a bit of a challenge. (Apparently the graphic design students got coached on what to say?) Is anyone else finding this difficult?

yeah it's tricky. I'll ask kirsty if jewellery have said anything to her. i was thinking of just saying what's in my proposal/statement, and just emphasising the bits most central to my work and what it's about. i think keep it fairly casual and in a conversational manner. just keep in mind what the most important bit of your work you really want them to grasp when they're makring it - try and get your ideas through to them, like why you've chosen to do what you've done and the concepts/personal things that inspired it. for mine, i think i'm going to talk about being experimental and finding the right style, and using personal interests (i.e. using my dog for the story, and doing a book about cake!) to inform my projects. in all i think just try to communicate the personality in your work and where it's come from! i know that sounds more than a little cheesy...
urgh yes. i am finding it insanely hard. i wish they were asking us questions...it would be more natural that way. oh well.
Thank you that is very very helpful! I'm going through the handouts as well and trying to reference the things they want us to accomplish.... I also wish they were asking questions. Oh well!
The supposed guidelines that we were sent consisted of one sentence at the end of an e-mail which says "There will be no questions and you are asked to make a brief statement presenting your work to the staff.
You should address the ideas, development and context for your work and your ambitions."
That really doesn't help much!
Do you think that "I've just had a tooth pulled out and sound like my mouth's full of cotton wool" would be a suitable excuse for doing badly in this!?
